About Joe DeAngelis
Joe DeAngelis grew up in Pittsgrove Township and attended Olivet Elementary School, Schalick Highschool and Rutgers University. Overweight as a youth, he began weight training at the age of fourteen. By his senior year in highschool, at age 17, Joe had won the NJ Highschool Powerlifting Championships, and set five State and National Powerlifting records. Sidelined by a shoulder injury, Joe began training for bodybuilding shows winning his first, the Teen Mr South Jersey, at Wildwood Convention Hall at age eighteen. Successive victories followed, including the Teenage Mr New Jersey, and Mr Northeastern America, among others. After winning the 1987 Jr Mr World, held in Antwerp, Belgium, Joe was offered a management position with one of the premiere fitness chains in the world, and moved to Santa Barbara, CA. After a string of victories, including Mr North America, Mr USA, Mr America and Mr Universe, Joe struck out on his own and started DeAngelis Personal Training. Training celebrities, housewives and business people alike, as well as receiving accolades for his fitness success, Joe moved to Santa Monica, California in 1997. Named as one of the three strongest bodybuilders of the 90's by MuscleMag International,and having appeared on dozens of magazine covers and articles, Joe was quickly signed as a contracted athlete with Universal Nutrition, and traveled the world for 10+ years lecturing on health and fitness throughout Europe, Australia/New Zealand and the US. In addition, he co hosted the popular syndicated show "Infinite Power Workout" which included interviews with A-List celebrities and their fitness habits and routines. Joe also appeared in several films including "American Tigers' with Cynthia Rothrock and is currently starring in "Theogony-The Movie" which is currently debuting at the Cannes Film Festival in France in May of 2008.
Joe returned to South Jersey with his wife Helle and son Gabriel in the summer of 2006 to start FLEX Family Fitness Center in Upper Deerfield, NJ. Remembering his humble beginnings as an overweight 14 year old, Joe's goal is to provide the support, guidance, motivation and results he so desired as an exercise novice!
